Angelica

Angelica archangelica Scent description: A spicy, long lasting musky aroma. Angelica blends well with citrus oils, patchouli, frankincense and clary sage.

Uses: Angelica can be used in a massage oil to aid digestion or upset stomach. It also relieves coughing. Angelica can be used to calm nervousness and combat depression.

Precautions: Use with caution or avoid altogether during pregnancy. Angelica is a photosensitizing essential oil. Exposure to sunlight within 24 hours after use could cause skin irritation

Anise

Pimpinella anisum

Scent description: A rich, sweet aroma. Anise blends well with cardamom, cedarwood, coriander and mandarin.

Uses: Anise essential oil is used to relieve muscle aches, coughs, bronchitis and indigestion

Basil

Ocimum basilicum

Scent description: Sweet and spicy, a licorice-like aroma. Basil blends well with Clary sage, geranium, lavender, neroli and bergamot.

Uses: Basil essential oil is used to combat fatigue and loss of concentration. Can be used in a massage blend to relieve muscle aches and pains. It also relieves sinus congestion and head colds.

Precautions: Basil should be avoided if you have epilepsy or are pregnant. Do not use on children under the age of 2. Use could possibly result in skin irritation.

Bay

Laurus nobilis

Scent description: Pungent, strong and spicy aroma.

Uses: Bay is used to stimulate lymph and blood circulation. Relieves sinus and lung congestion. Used for colds, insomnia and rheumatism.

Precautions: Could cause skin irritation. May have a slightly narcotic effect. Should not be used if pregnant.

Benzoin

Styrax tonkinensis

Scent description: Sweet, warm, vanilla-like aroma. Benzoin is an uplifting essential oil with soothing properties.

Uses: Benzoin essential oil is used in skin creams to improve skin elasticity. Relieves itching and chapped skin. In a massage oil, Benzoin can be used to treat lung and sinus infections. It has also been known to improve mental energy.

Precautions: Possible skin sensitivity

Bergamot

Citrus bergamia

Scent description: A light, fruity citrus oil. The fragrance is a refreshing citrus but slightly spicy, uplifting yet mellow. Bergamot oil blends well with other scents such as chamomile, lavender, lemon, neroli and ylang ylang.

Uses: Bergamot is an antiseptic. It destroys odor causing bacteria, viruses and fungi. Bergamot is used as a soothing agent for a variety of skin problems such as eczema, and blemishes.

Precautions: Bergamot is photosensitizing (sun sensitive) and should not be applied to the skin prior to sun exposure.
