Mandarin

Citrus reticulata

Scent description: Mandarin essential oil has a sweet, fruity, citrus-like aroma. It blends well with basil, bergamot, chamomile, geranium, grapefruit, lavender, rose, clary sage, neroli and orange.

Uses: Mandarin essential oil has been used to treat insomnia, nervousness, digestive weakness, stress & anxiety, oily skin, and scars.

Precautions: Mandarin aromatherapy oil is photosensitizing. Direct exposure to sun after use could result in skin irritation.

Marjoram

Origanum majorana

Scent description: Marjoram essential oil has a woody, herblike, sweet aroma. It blends well with cedarwood, cypress, lavender, mandarin, orange, rosemary, ylang ylang, and eucalyptus.

Uses: Marjoram essential oil has been used to ease menstrual problems and intestinal cramps, anxiety, asthma, bronchitis, and insomnia. It’s also used to combat stress, muscle aches and pains as well as symptoms of the common cold, including congestion.

Precautions: Marjoram should be avoided during pregnancy.

Melissa

Melissa officinalis

Scent description: Melissa essential oil has a soft, sweet, lemony aroma.

Uses: Melissa has a soothing uplifting effect on the mind and body; it can be used to help with depression, nervousness and insomnia. Melissa essential oil is also used to relax stiff or sore muscles. It also treats indigestion, lung congestion, menstrual irregularities and fights viral infections.

Precautions: Melissa essential oil can be photosensitizing. Avoid direct sunlight exposure after use.

Myrrh

Comminphora myrrha

Scent description: The scent of Myrrh essential oil is warm, spicy and bitter with smoky undertones. It blends well with lavender, patchouli and sandalwood.

Uses: Myrrh essential oil is a strong antiseptic and is used to treat wounds, fight viral and fungal infections, eczema, athlete’s foot, and diarrhea. It’s good for coughs, colds and flu. Myrrh essential oil is also an aphrodisiac.

Precautions: Avoid use during pregnancy.

Myrtle

Myrtus communis

Scent description: Myrtle essential oil has a sweet, slightly camphor-like aroma. It blends well with bergamot, lavender, lemon, rosemary and tea tree.

Uses: Myrtle has antiseptic properties and is useful in treating lung and respiratory infections. It is a calming oil that relaxes the mind. Myrtle is useful in treating oily skin and acne.

Neroli

Citrus aurantium

Scent description: Neroli essential oil has a floral, spicy, bittersweet aroma. It blends well with rose, jasmine, ylang ylang and citrus oils.

Uses: Neroli essential oil is used to treat dry sensitive skin, scars, and stretch marks. It aids in circulation, relieves stress, tension and anxiety. Neroli also has sensual properties and is an aphrodisiac.

Niaouli

Melaleuca quinquenervia

Scent description: The scent of Niaouli essential oil is sweet, sharp and fresh. It blends well with lavender.

Uses: Niaouli essential oil is an antiseptic and is used to treat cuts and wounds, infections, burns, acne, respiratory problems and sore throat. It’s also used to decrease inflammation.

Nutmeg

Myristica fragrans

Scent description: Nutmeg essential oil has a spicy, sweet, woody aroma. It blends well with lavandin, orange, geranium, clary sage, rosemary, mandarin, and petitgrain.

Uses: Nutmeg essential oil has been used to treat nausea, vomiting, muscle aches and pains, rheumatism, arthritis, nervousness, and insomnia. Nutmeg essential oil is also an aphrodisiac.

Precautions: Nutmeg essential oil may cause skin irritation. It should be used with extreme caution or not at all if you are susceptible to seizures or are pregnant. Do not use on children under the age of five.
